Stephanie Does Blog Post 1

Hello everyone! My name is Stephanie. I'm in my fourth year studying communications. As I mentioned in class last week, I LOVE house music and the culture surrounding it. Some of my favourite DJ's are Mau P, Dom Dolla, Fisher, Chris Lake, Disclosure, and many more. I first started listening in my first year, and as time went on, I became addicted to it. From music festivals to the Boiler Rooms, house music is my favourite style of music. Raves in particular are so life-changing no one judges, cares, and everyone is so happy and inclusive. My first ever set I saw live was Fisher, and after that I was hooked,  like an out-of-body euphoric feeling being in the crowd. House music energizes me and just sets my mood. Helps me stay focused when doing work, fires me up to run, and makes me want to dance. At first, people think it's super annoying, but I promise if you give it a shot, you too will love it. I've attached my go-to house music songs in my playlist below feel free to give them a listen. I decided to take this class because I am interested in the relationship between music, communication, technology, and social life. music.apple.com

  1. Hi Stephanie! I really liked your post and how you explained the culture surrounding house music, especially how welcoming and inclusive raves can be. I mostly listen to rap and R&B, but I can definitely relate to how music can change your mood and give you energy. I usually listen to more upbeat songs when I'm commuting to school or need motivation, so I understand what you mean about house music helping you stay focused and energized. I also found it interesting how seeing Fisher live made you fall in love with house music. I've never really explored house music that much, but your post makes me want to give it a try!

  2. Hi Stephanie, great playlist. I also have a house playlist and I will definitely be adding some song recommendations from you! I agree with you that house music feels good and makes you want to dance and is super interesting. On the other hand it’s interesting to see that house music helps you get work done. I feel like since it's so up beat that I think I’d personally want to get up and start moving around, it's great to read how all music and genres can have all sorts of meaning to a person!

  3. Like I said in class I completely co-sign everything here. EDM in general is just the perfect genre for any mood; you can play techno or trance for dancing vibes, you can play deep house for studying or late night drives, you can play hardstyle or DnB for working out, it's just so versatile. I think there's an argument for EDM being the purest music form, especially when just looking at melody and rhythm and how music is defined, as well as the history of 70s disco and 80s synth-pop. I would disagree with only one thing, I don't know if anyone actually finds house annoying; some more niche subgenres might not be for everyone (like with all music), but even my parents will bop their head to the latest David Guetta banger. As for my go-to's, I'd probably go with Armin or Tiesto, both of which I've seen live. It might be a bit basic since they're the GOATs, but still.
