Blog 1 - Zoe

When it comes to the world of digital media and sound, I thoroughly enjoy going back to the same apple music playlists and updating myself on the newest editions. While I enjoy classic and new R&B and used to find myself listening to the R&B Now playlist, I have ventured out to the Coffee Shop Essentials playlist containing songs that are old, new and have everything in between.

I found this playlist one winter afternoon while studying at a Coffee shop and heavily disagreed with the music choice, so I found my own. As someone who prides themselves on the diversity of my music taste, this genre and era variety satisfied my taste preferences. The acoustic and alternative features made me feel warm and reminiscent of the simpler summer times. The calmness of the singers' voices and catchy tunes from the band make me feel focused, seen and allow me to recognize how everything I have been doing is all for something much larger than I can se right now.

I took this class due to my interest in how sounds impacts the way we understand ourselves and our place in the world. Music is something I have on in between every activity I do; walking to class, cleaning my room, and even how I concentrate to do work. I would love to explore how sports radio broadcasting impacted the way people experienced sport, different from environments where they experienced visual, and not necessarily audio.

  1. Hi Zoe! I use Spotify all the time, especially when studying or walking to class. I agree that music can really affect your mood and help you focus. I also think your idea about radio sports is interesting because listening to a game can create a very different experience rather than watching it. Great post!

  2. Your description of music being the bridge between every single daily activity really resonated with me!! I'm exactly the same way whether I'm walking to class or cleaning my house, I'm listening to my playlists. It sounds like you have a beautifully diverse taste in music, and I love how you described that acoustic/alternative mix giving you that warm, nostalgic summer feeling in the middle of winter. I get that as well.
