Blog Post 1-Emily Costigan

 Hello! My name is Emily and I am in my fourth year of communication studies. Some of my favourite artists are Harry Styles, Frank Ocean, and Abba. I tend to steer more to listening to songs that I like rather than focusing on the artist, however these three artists are my favourite. My favourite song is Little Freak by Harry Style the link is here. This song is my favourite because I like the slow beat and melody. The song if very slow and calming and I never get tired of listening to it.

I wanted to take this course of aural culture because of a KS course I took on popular music when I was in second year. I enjoyed learning about how people interact with music and the significance aural culture has on our emotions and experiences. I am interested in learning about how different music can effect our emotions and overall mood. I am really looking forward to this class!

    Emily, I like how you chose songs based on how they make you feel, even when they are coming from different artists. I feel that is such an important thing when it comes to listening to music. I know that is how I feel when it comes to listening to music. I also agree with you that the slow melody of "Little Freak" is very calming.

    Hi Emily, I love that you choose to listen based on the song instead of the artist, this is definitely something I feel with certain artists as sometimes a rapper might make an R&B song, or a pop singer (like Harry Styles) might make an acoustic rendition. One of my favourites from him is his cover of Girl Crush, originally from Little Big Town: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rroc2y9if_Q. I'd like to know some artists that you listen to more than others and if you have ever tried to listen to an artist's album chronologically?
