The Rhythm of House and EDM

For the first blog post, I will be sharing one of my Apple Music playlists. This playlist is a mixture of my favourite EDM and house music songs. It consists of artists such as KETTEMA, John Summit, Fisher, Bunt, and Fred Again. It resonates with me because house music/EDM has always been able to lift my mood no matter what. I can listen to this playlist in the car, at the gym, walking to class, or even just around the house. These songs give me the ability to feel free and feel like the world is at peace whenever I listen to it, it is like everything around me is so quiet except the space I am in. I think house music has a way of pulling people out of their comfort zone and being able to bring everyone together through dancing with the beat.

I took this course to deepen my understanding of why we listen to music and to better understand the evolution of how we have listened to music. Music is everywhere in our lives; it’s on the radio, on our phones, in commercials, in the mall, etc. So, to be able to understand the why and the how would help me appreciate it more. A topic I am interested in for my group project is to explore the podcasting world more, as it is becoming more popular, and the significance of the podcast universe.

  1. Hi Josh,

As someone who is very unfamiliar with EDM, I found your post very interesting. I never thought of EDM or house music as being calming, but I like how you said you’re able to find peace when listening to it. It demonstrates how the same song/genre can affect people in different ways, demonstrating human individuality. As for house music, I agree that it has the ability to bring people out of their shell. There is nothing more powerful than hearing a song you know and having everyone sing-a-long together, feeling the connection brought on by music. After reading your post, I’ll have to try listening to EDM.
